A tool-making company in Delaware County is marking its new location. Taurus Tool and Engineering recently relocated to a 66,000-square-foot facility in Muncie, which is more than double its previous space and provides room to expand.
Taurus provides contract machining work, including CNC turning, milling and fabrication. It also designs and builds special machinery, gauges and tooling and the company maintains and repairs parts
The company, which employs 30 workers, says it plans to create five new jobs and add water-jet functions to its metal cutting services for a variety of industries such as food packaging and aerospace.
“This is a new product for us, a new opportunity,” Co-owner and President Jim McDonald said in written remarks. “Water-jet machines are extremely cost effective. You can cut a shape out of a plate (of metal) up to eight inches in thickness.”
Taurus, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in June, marked the new location with the installation of a 5’x8′ statue of a bull outside the entrance to the new facility.
McDonald says while workforce challenges are real, he believes talent retention can be strong with his company.
“We’ve seen if an employee is onboarded and stays two years, they’re going to be an employee for years to come. We have 15 to 20 years of longevity with this workforce.”
Taurus Tool did not respond to a request for more information from Inside INdiana Business.
The company’s previous facility was sold to Italy-based Filtrec, which announced in June it would invest $1 million to establish its North American headquarters in Delaware County and create 21 jobs.
